About Me, Margo Van Peterson
I’m passionate about my community and I believe in community service. I moved from the Berkshire Mountains to Lake Butler in the spring of 2022, after having lived in Florida, Massachusetts for 22 years. During my time in Florida, MA, I served on several Town boards, most of which were volunteer positions, some with very little pay, but I was doing it for the community. When I was chair of the Planning Board, my annual salary was $150 per year with an extra $25 for being chair! So I wasn’t doing it for the money! During my time in the Berkshires, I developed our property, the Rose and Goat Retreat, into a Wedding venue and rental business. We lived in most of the houses and cabins on the property at some time or other, depending on what was rented. My wedding venue was very successful and we had a 5 star reputation. I believe in giving a good service and product for less money, so my wedding venue prices were very much less than what the other venues were charging, but I believe that having a wedding shouldn’t cost a couple a down payment on a house! I loved the wedding business. I also did real estate part time and eventually established my own brokerage, working from home. I started with my first real estate license in 2003 and obtained my broker’s license in 2016. So then we decided to sell some property and move to Florida full time. We weren’t sure where to go but felt that we would find the right place and that when we did, we’d know it. That’s what happened with Lake Butler. Through a series of uncanny coincidences (actually we felt we were following the signs from above), we found our property and built our forever home. Once here, I wanted to get to know my new community and get involved with the community. I joined the Rotary Club. I joined the Women’s Club. I recently became a board member of the Historical Society. I truly love giving back to and being part of my community. So a few months after we arrived here, I decided to get my Florida Broker’s license, which I did. I rented an office on Main Street, Lake Butler. I especially love helping the 50+ population, otherwise known as seniors. I served on the Council of Aging previously and truly loved it. Having been the primary caretaker for both my parents when they were aging, I can relate especially well with seniors. Although we don’t feel like seniors, we think we’re years younger than we really are! Please stop by my office sometime at 30 E Main Street, Lake Butler. I’m there weekdays from 10 am- 12 pm (except holidays, posted vacations, and posted closures due to continuing education.) I’d love to meet you!
